The Totem of Return allows players to respawn in their bed with a full inventory when killed. This is a perfect failsafe for those trying the new Expert mode, which will eliminate you from that world upon death if playing solo. Regular Survival mode players will simply not have to run all the way back to their belongings if death happens.

There are three rarities for the Totem of Return and all can be created at the Crafting Bench. The recipe for all three will unlock once players earn a Storm Core for the first time. Here are the recipes for each Totem of Return rarity:

  • Uncommon Totem of Return
    • 50 Storm Core
    • Eight Wolf Claw
    • Five Silk Thread
    • Three Shell
  • Rare Totem of Return
    • 50 Storm Core
    • Eight Sand Claw
    • Five Wool Thread
    • Three Sand Shell
  • Epic Totem of Return

Crafting the Totem of Return at the Crafting Bench will place it in your inventory, but it must be actively equipped for it to take effect. Forgetting to equip it will not save you from an inventory-less or permanent death.

Select the Totem of Return from the inventory and choose Equip to place it into one of the three Charm slots under the Equipment bar. The Rare and Epic versions will give players an extra heart or two to their life when equipped.

It is important to note that the Totem of Return will be destroyed upon use. Make sure to have a surplus of Storm Cores to craft multiple totems, especially when in Expert mode.
