How to Get the Battle-Tested Dagger in Octopath Traveler 2

Do you like shanking people? Would you shank an old man to get the ultimate shanker? Then, like a hooligan King Arthur, you might be worthy of wielding the Battle-Tested Dagger.

Unfortunately, laying hands on it can be pretty difficult. Battle-Tested Weapons are usually obtained by defeating a particular NPC in combat (through provoke, duels, or muggings). But the drop rates are painfully low: only 2%. Fortunately, there’s another way to put your hands on the Battle-Tested Dagger’s hilt, if you’ve completed Castti’s story and a certain side quest.

Option One

Mug or beat down the Elderly Man in the Tavern in Clockbank.

To find this man, go to the second floor of the Tavern. There will be a boy blocking the door to the balcony. Knock him out however you like. Walk onto the balcony and change the time until the Elderly Man appears sitting on the chair.

You might have qualms about beating up an old man, but he’s actually a particularly good assassin, which is reflected in his strength level: 9 out of 10.

If you’re struggling to bring him down, use Bottled Nightmares to put him to sleep and poison him, defend, and when he wakes, use another Bottle of Nightmares. It will take around six or so. But this is a very expensive way of grinding out the Battle-Hardened Dagger drop.

Fortunately, there’s another option which is much easier.

Option Two

If you’ve completed Castti’s storyline, head to Winterbloom and complete Melia’s Next Chapter. Upon completing this quest, find Plukk.

During the day, she can be found in the garden beside the manor. At night, she can be found at the tavern, which is much livelier than before. On Plukk’s person, you’ll find a series of Apothecary ingredients but, much more importantly, the Battle-Tested Dagger.

This is a much easier way to grab the dagger than treating the Elderly Man to a series of beatdowns.
