Having strong weapons in Tears of the Kingdom is essential for all the inevitable boss fights you’ll fall into later down the line. As expected, you’ll start off with any branch you can find lying around, and while the majority of Hyrule is littered with weapons for you to pick up and use as you please, the vast amount of them aren’t exactly strong. You’ll need to keep a keen eye out for strong weapons when you start to head toward facing the gloom head-on, especially for anyone brave enough to delve into the depths. But it’s a lot easier said than done. Here’s how to get stronger weapons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Where to Find Stronger Weapons in Tears of the Kingdom
There’s actually no trick to finding strong weapons in Tears of the Kingdom, and instead of relying on random drops and weapons you find across the map, it’s best to use your fuse mechanic to create stronger weapons to give yourself the upper hand. A huge number of items can be fused to weapons to make them stronger, be it mob loot like Construct Horns, or environmental items like rocks and spiked balls to cause that extra bit of damage, it’s the best way to strengthen your weapons without having to run around aimlessly for hours.
In addition, a huge number of weapons you’ll come across will be rusted or old, which in turn makes them slightly weaker than they would’ve been in Breath of the Wild. This is why giving them a new lease on life by fusing them with stronger materials is essential. At first, you might find attaching a rock to the end of your sword slightly odd, but having tools like boulder hammers, or longer weapons like a sword fused to a long branch, may save your life if you need a ranged weapon and haven’t come across a spear yet.

That said, if you are still slightly skeptical about relying on fused weapons, you can still find a huge number of powerful weapons across the map, whether that’s things like the Master Sword on the surface, or weapons like Biggoron’s Sword on the depths. However, they are significantly harder to come by, and obviously, after a few uses they will break like any other weapon, so it’s best to have an armory of strength on your side for when these tools do shatter.
Generally, stronger tools and weapons can be found in chests through both shrines and side-quests and occasionally will be rewarded by NPCs. It’s best to keep exploring caves and completing shrines where you can since the open-world nature of the game means loot won’t scale alongside your progression and it’s the best chance you’ll get at finding stronger weapons without fusing your own stash of materials.
If you’re really struggling, we’ve got guides on how to fuse weapons in Tears of the Kingdom, alongside a guide on how to fuse items with arrows if you’re looking to make your aerial attack stronger alongside your melee. If you’re an avid explorer and constantly ignoring the central storyline to complete side-quests like me, you shouldn’t be in too short supply when it comes to stronger materials and weapons to use for when you do eventually rejoin the battle.
