How to Get Shiny Meloetta Using Pokemon HOME
What You Need to Get Started
To get your own shiny Meloetta in Pokemon HOME, you’ll need the following games and apps:
- Pokemon Scarlet or Violet,
- The Teal Mask DLC,
- The Indigo Disk DLC,
- Pokemon HOME on Nintendo Switch,
- And Pokemon HOME on a mobile device.
Be sure to link your Nintendo Account to your mobile version of Pokemon HOME under “Options” and “Account” or you won’t be able to get shiny Meloetta.
Completing Your Pokemon HOME (Not Scarlet and Violet) Pokedexes
Next, you’ll need every Pokemon from the regional Pokedexes in Pokemon Scarlet or Violet and the two DLC chapters, The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, deposited into Pokemon HOME. That totals to:
- All 400 Pokemon from the Paldea (base game) Pokedex,
- All 200 Pokemon from the Kitakami (Teal Mask) Pokedex,
- And the first 240 Pokemon from the Blueberry (Indigo Disk) Pokedex,
- All deposited in Pokemon HOME at some point (not necessarily at the same time).
In other words, it’s not enough to have all three Pokedexes completed in-game. You have to deposit each Pokemon individually from Scarlet or Violet into Pokemon HOME in order for them to count towards your Meloetta progress. If you’ve already completed your Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry Pokedexes beforehand but did not deposit each Pokemon as you caught or evolved them, you will need to obtain them again.
It also won’t count if the Pokemon you used to complete Scarlet or Violet’s Pokedexes were obtained in another game first. For example, if you transferred an Alolan Golem from Pokemon Sun or Moon into Scarlet or Violet, you will unlock its Pokedex entry in The Indigo Disk, but it won’t count as “from Paldea” or for the Blueberry Pokedex in Pokemon HOME. Each regional variant must also be obtained separately but still within Scarlet or Violet. For example, you must catch Kantonian Sandshrew in Kitakami and Alolan Sandshrew in Blueberry Academy, not just one form.
Although there are 840 Pokemon numbered across the three Scarlet and Violet Pokedexes, there are some Pokemon that overlap and can be caught in any area and still count towards each Pokedex. In the end, you’ll need 680 different Pokemon and forms obtained in Scarlet and Violet, then placed into Pokemon HOME to unlock shiny Meloetta.
It’s also important to note that although they have their own numbers and entries, Walking Wake, Iron Leaves, and Pecharunt aren’t necessary for completing the Blueberry Pokedex. You also do not have to catch the (non-shiny) Meloetta in Blueberry Academy as part of completing the Blueberry Pokedex. You do, however, need to register Gouging Fire, Raging Bolt, Iron Crown, Iron Boulder, and Terapagos.
Making Sure You’ve Transferred Them All
The simplest way to make sure you are on the right track is to have one of each Pokemon from all three of Scarlet and Violet’s Pokedexes (obtained without transferring) stored in your in-game boxes. Then move them all into Pokemon HOME at once. It’s not necessary to have them all stored in Pokemon HOME at the same time, but doing this helps you keep track of all the Pokemon you have already and which ones you still need to get.
Retrieving Shiny Meloetta From Pokemon HOME
Once you’ve moved each and every Pokemon into Pokemon HOME, your Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry Pokedexes will finally be complete in Pokemon HOME as well as in Scarlet or Violet. You can double-check your progress to be sure you’re done on the mobile version of Pokemon HOME (this feature is not accessible on the Nintendo Switch version) by tapping your player name at the top of the “Your Room” page then scrolling down to “Pokedex Progress.” Your Scarlet and Violet progress should read:
- Paldea Pokedex: 400/400
- Kitakami Pokedex: 200/200
- Blueberry Pokedex: 240/240.
After you’ve completed these three Pokedexes, you can obtain shiny Meloetta from the mobile app version of Pokemon HOME under the “Mystery Gifts” menu option. “Mystery Gifts” is not available on the Nintendo Switch version of the app. One small note: if you transferred each individual Pokemon into HOME beforehand, you would be able to get Meloetta right away!
If you weren’t depositing your Pokemon each time they evolved and need to recapture everything again, there is one silver lining: there is currently no deadline for this distribution. As long as Pokemon HOME is up and running and can connect to Scarlet and Violet, you can slowly but surely make progress towards earning a shiny Meloetta of your own. It may seem like a hassle for those who already have a completed National Dex, but on the bright side, at least Meloetta is finally no longer shiny locked.
