Apart from using Heatstamps, Prefabs are another crucial resource for constructing buildings in Frostpunk 2. Without Prefabs, you’ll get stuck with whatever you have built and be forced to deconstruct other buildings if you need other resources. Luckily, even if Prefabs are somewhat limited, there are several ways you can get them. Here are all the ways you can get Prefabs in Frostpunk 2.
How to Farm More Prefabs in Frostpunk 2
Prefabs are the core materials to construct anything in Frostpunk 2. You’ll need them to build all types of districts, upgrades, hubs, and more. Unfortunately, Prefabs are extremely limited at the start of a playthrough.
There are three main ways of acquiring Prefabs: extracting them from Prefab tiles, producing them in Industrial Districts, and importing them from expeditions outside the main city.
Initially, you’ll only have access to the first method, but you can easily build Industrial Districts early too. However, it isn’t as efficient because it uses up a lot of other resources.
You want to look for Prefabs tiles (gold bar icon) and build Extraction Districts on each of the tiles. You’ll have to work with all these Prefabs during the start of a playthrough. When you start running out, you need to build Industrial Districts and let them start producing Prefabs.
Industrial Districts naturally produce Prefabs, but if you want to switch to producing Goods, you can manually switch them by selecting each Industrial District and switching the production icon. One Industrial District produces at a menial rate of seven Prefabs per week. This is quite low considering the total demand to run the district. Industrial Districts also require a lot of Materials to maintain.
You want to avoid building multiple sources of Prefab production from Industrial Districts. Once you reach the station and get your Logistics Districts up, you can start running expeditions with your Frostland Teams and look for other sources of materials outside. You can look at other regions, and some of them will have the Prefabs icon. Run expeditions and bring those resources back to your city.
If you find a permanent source or deposit from expeditions, you might want to expand your Frostland Teams so you can extract those resources and run more expeditions.
If Prefabs is a bit tight, remember that you can demolish older buildings, especially Extraction Districts that have run out of deposits. You’ll be able to recoup some of the materials when demolishing these useless districts.
