Hearty Bass is one of many fish in Tears of the Kingdom that you can use for cooking or armor upgrading. It has a beneficial buff when cooking, increasing the HP restoration of dishes and boosting your maximum health. However, you won’t spot many if you’re casually running around Hyrule’s surface, as they have specific spawn locations to look out for. If you are curious, continue reading to discover where to find Hearty Bass in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Where to Find Hearty Bass in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Hearty Bass primarily spawn in sky islands, particularly those in Necluda, Lanayru, and Hebra. The list below includes a few examples:
- Ijo-o Shrine’s Island in West Hebra Sky Archipelago: coordinates (-3891, 2785, 0709)
- Wellspring Island above Zora’s Domain: coordinates (3671, 0568, 1251)
- Necluda Sky Archipelago Island: coordinates (2111, -2623, 1263)
Be careful when you visit these locations, though! You’ll have to progress through multiple main storyline quests to access these Hearty Bass locations, mainly those in Zora’s Domain and Rito Village.
I’ll detail these later, but be careful; it’ll include story spoilers!

When hunting these fish, there’s a good chance you’ll scare them off if you just jump into the water and swim toward them. Instead, throw a shock fruit near them or shoot an arrow to get the job done quickly!
Story Requirements For Finding Hearty Bass
You’ll have to progress through Tulin of Rito Village to access the Ijo-o Shrine island spawn and Sidon of the Zora for the Necluda Archipelago islands. In the first storyline, you must complete it in its entirety, including clearing its temple, so that you’ll dethaw the ponds there. In the second, you’ll have to unlock the first Zora armor set piece so you can ascend waterfalls.
What Are Hearty Bass Used For in Tears of the Kingdom?
The main purpose of collecting Hearty Bass is to use it for Zora armor upgrades! For its tier three upgrade, you’ll need three per armor piece alongside Lizalfos Tail and Blue Lizalfos Horns. If you need help gathering Lizalfos Tails in TOTK, we’ve got you covered there, too.
If you’ve already upgraded the Zora set or want to save that for later, you can also cook with Hearty Bass! Using it in a cooked dish will add full HP recovery and increase your maximum health. If you’re about to enter a battle or want to feel safer on your journey, this is a great item to use in your food if you have some extras.
