How to Get Fish Oil in New World

The simple way to answer this is by saying that you have to salvage fish to gain fish oil. Alongside fish oil, you also have a chance to get fish fillets, roe and other miscellaneous resources depending on which fish you’re salvaging. However, you’ll have to find some fish before you do this!

Fish spawn in any body of water in the game. Depending on your region, you’ll find different fish types that give various resources. For example, while salmon typically give fillets and fish oil, snails provide bait. Once you reach your desired spot, equip a fishing rod, press F3, and cast your line out! Succeed in the fishing minigame to get your fish.

It’s important to note that fish like snails and tadpoles do not give fish oil. Try to avoid these unless you need their resources. If you end up primarily catching these types of creatures, move to a different location or try a fishing hotspot.

After getting your hands on a few fish, start salvaging them. While you’re not always guaranteed to obtain fish oil every time, you have a greater chance of finding some the more you salvage. This is especially true if you’re primarily catching smaller fish that don’t provide as many resources.
