How to Get Clay in Pax Dei

Clay cakes, anyone?

Shortly after the game’s introductory phase, in which you’ll collect handfuls of sticks and stones to craft a building hammer, you’ll plop down your first building plot. Unfortunately, you can’t place much down within your closed-off space without a few key resources, namely clay for building pieces. Here is how to get clay in Pax Dei!

Where to Get Clay in Pax Dei

Like many of the other resources in the game, you can find clay in Pax Dei on the ground as a gatherable item. It does not require any special tools to acquire, just your bare hands and free inventory space. The problem isn’t scooping up the clay, however. It’s finding it in the first place.

I scoured all over the starting zone in Shire in search of clay, checking the usual locations, such as near rocky hills and rivers, but no luck. I wound up finding a ton of clay near a lake with rocks adorning the embankments and surrounding hills.

Like in most other survival games in which you’ll collect resources, clay appears reddish-brown. In Pax Dei, it spawns in large clumps or mounds, and usually, you’ll find five or six mounds per deposit, not just one.

Why You Need Clay in Pax Dei

You need clay for countless crafting and construction recipes, such as:

  • Bricks
  • Flower Pots
  • Doorways
  • Foundations
  • Stairs
  • Roof Supports
  • Walls
  • Basic Forge
  • Millstone
  • Bread Oven
  • Cooking Hearth
  • Charcoal Kiln
  • Clay Shingles
  • Brazier

Honestly, the list goes on and on. Trust me when I say you want a ton of clay stocked up in your storage chest back home!

Speaking of a storage chest, you will especially want to keep plenty of storage space available, as clay only has a max stack size of 20. It will quickly fill up your personal inventory and leave you in a tough spot should you find any other useful resources on your journey, like bone fragments!
