How to Get and Use Darksteel in Final Fantasy 16 (FFXVI)

Gotterdammerung awaits!

The Gotterdammerung is one of the most powerful swords that Clive can wield in Final Fantasy 16, but to get a hold of the weapon, you will need a couple of pieces of Darksteel. Earning the material won’t be easy. However, getting the steel is at least straightforward, and I’m here to point you in the right direction. Here’s how to get Darksteel in FFXVI.

Where to Find Darksteel in Final Fantasy 16

To get Darksteel in FFXVI, you must defeat The Grim Reaper and Thanatos, Usher to the Underworld as bounties. Both of these bosses are considered Notorious Marks, which means you have to hunt them down through the use of the Hunt Board. Thanatos and The Grim Reaper, also known as The Prince of Death, are considered A Rank hunts, but they tend to be more difficult than the ranking suggests. I wouldn’t jump into the battle without preparing for a tougher challenge.

Defeating either one will reward you with the Darksteel you need in Final Fantasy 16. Once both of them are down, you will have enough of the steel to create your next best sword for Clive. You can easily craft a weapon like Gotterdammerung by heading to the Blacksmith with your materials and simply trading them in. Crafting is the easy part though. Actually finding and killing the Hunt Board bosses is the real challenge.

Aside from a tough fight, you have to locate the bosses in a general region. Thanatos can be found in the Dhalmekian Republic, just east of the Kretov fast travel point. Then you can find The Grim Reaper to the west of the Royal Meadows in the Holy Empire of Sanbreque. I recommend going for The Grim Reaper first, but the order is really up to you.
