How to Fix Shader Cache Error in Warhammer 40K: Darktide

It's a surprisingly simple fix, all things considered.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide may soon be out of pre-order beta, though that doesn’t mean the technical problems have stopped just yet. Plenty of the issues that plagued the game off launch are unfortunately still there, though many of them Fatshark is aware of and are actively working to fix. One such issue has been plaguing a lot of players, even since the closed beta a while back. Here’s how to fix the Shader Cache error in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.

What Causes the Shader Cache Error in Darktide?

This issue tends to be one of the most frustrating out of all of the technical issues with Darktide so far. Not because it crashes your game, or because of some sort of progress loss, but because it tends to force you to hard restart your PC entirely. It will generally come up with an error window such as “Something went wrong in the Shader Cache Builder process. Exit Code = 1”.

Unlike many of the other Darktide issues though, this one has a fix that isn’t official, but seems to be the fix for the majority of players. To fix the issue, press the Windows and R keys at the same time and type %AppData% into the search box. This will open up a window in a folder called Roaming, where you’ll see a bunch of random folders for different things. From here, you want to delete the Fatshark folder and restart your PC. Once you’ve started the PC back up, launch Darktide, and it should download the Fatshark file again. Once it’s finished and you’ve started the game, the issue should disappear.

Issues like these will likely be fixed, though we’re glad that for today, the issue was rectifiable. We wish you the best of luck slaughtering heretics out there rejects! That is, unless you encounter even more technical problems.
