How to Solve “Error Joining” in GTA Online

When you attempt to load into GTA Online, like straight into the multiplayer component without first entering the single-player, you may wind up with an error joining or timed out joining session error. Either way, one is annoying to see, but there’s a fix. To resolve either error, join a private lobby and then hop into a public session. It’s the easiest fix around.

But once you receive the error, you’re likely thrust back into the single-player campaign. Once you load in as Franklin or Michael, open the menu and select “Play GTA Online.” Choose an “Invite Only Session” and load into the private lobby.

Once you’re in GTA Online, open the menu again and navigate to the “Online” tab to find “Find New Session.” Select this option, then wait as you load into a public multiplayer lobby. You’ll completely skip over the joining session error in the meantime.

How to Avoid “Error Joining” Issues in GTA Online

Rockstar has stated that your internet connection is one of the causes of such errors. They recommend a stable connection of at least 7.5 Mbps down and 0.5 Mbps up to play online.

Furthermore, they indicate the following ports must remain open to play online:

  • Port 6672 (UDP)
  • Port 61455 (UDP)
  • Port 61457 (UDP)
  • Port 61456 (UDP)
  • Port 61458 (UDP)

Once you’re successfully in an open lobby, why not tackle Lamar’s missions? It’s an excellent way to experience some of the story and earn cash.
