How to Find Scratch’s Family in Baldur’s Gate 3

You'll have to pry Scratch from my cold dead hands

I think anyone who’s played Baldur’s Gate 3 can agree with the sentiment that Scratch is the best boy in the world. But did you know that he still has a family out there? And you can even reunite him with those other good hounds, though doing so might not be in his best interest. Here’s how to find Scratch’s family in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Keep Scratch from Angry Mar’hyah in Baldur’s Gate 3

When you first encounter Scratch outside the Blighted Village, he’ll protect his fallen master. His master, you can infer from all the letters around him, was a courier. And this is proven true in Act 3 when you reach Rivington.

Rivington is home to the Sword Coast Couriers, where Scratch was born, raised, and trained. And if you go into the backyard, you’ll find Angry Mar’yhah yelling at the dogs and another employee.

If Scratch is with you (you can whistle for him in the conversation if you haven’t summoned him), you can tell her that you believe that Scratch came from Sword Coast. She’ll agree, calling him by name. She’ll also demand that you return Scratch. Fortunately, you can persuade her into letting him with either an Intimidation or Persuasion check. But you’ll have to roll high to succeed, scoring an 18 or higher.

And if you’re on the fence about it, don’t be. Scratch really doesn’t want to go with her.

If you want her to leave all the dogs alone, because she’s awful, you’ll need to pass a Deception or Intimidation saving throw. This throw will require you to hit a 20 or higher. That’s a tall order! But it’s well worth it, because if you succeed, she’ll leave the Sword Coast Couriers permanently.

They’ll be thrilled if you speak to the dogs in the kennel after she’s gone.
