In this guide, we will show you how to find and use the GPS Receiver in DayZ.

Where to Find and How to Use the GPS Receiver in DayZ

The functionality of the GPS Receiver is pretty straightforward. You turn it on, and it provides your coordinates, like in real life. If you happen to have a (Tourist) map in your inventory as well, you can use these together in order to see your exact location on the map. This is extremely helpful as you can meet up with your friends more efficiently now, and you’ll, of course, have a better general idea of where you are right now and where you are going next.

You will usually find the GPS Receiver in various houses, sheds, and huts. Be mindful that GPS needs a battery in order to run.
Using the GPS receiver is a different story. When you turn it on, you will see that it is providing your X and Y coordinates, along with the altitude.

  • X coordinates that you see on the device should be looked up on the bottom/top side of the map.
  • Y coordinates that you see on the device should be looked up on the left/right side of the map.
  • Altitude (Z axis) is actually not that relevant for your positioning.

Due to the manner in which the map in DayZ is marked, you will need to multiply the numbers of X and Y by 100 in order for the number from the GPS Receiver to be interchangeable with the map coordinates. Technically, multiplying by 100 just moves the decimal by two spots to the right (essentially just eliminating it).
