The Pokemon series is full of amazing Pokemon, who are affiliated with nearly element you can think of. There are Pokemon that embody life after death, the saccharine innocence of fairytales, and mental strength that transcends anything science can comprehend. But there is one element that stands above all else — the mythological dragon type.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have no shortage of Pokemon that you can catch. If you’re particularly inclined to exploring every nook and alcove, it’s possible you even managed to snag one fairly early into the game. Among these are Bagon and its evolved form, Shelgon. If you’ve managed to add Shelgon to your party, you might have noticed that it’s stubbornly refusing to evolve.
Here’s how to solve that problem.
How to Evolve Shelgon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Shelgon is a Pokemon that looks precisely like what it is – a seed with plenty of potential that stubbornly refuses to bloom. Getting it to this stage from Bagon is a slog. You had to either catch it in the wild, which is possible if you head to Alfornada to explore the caverns that run beneath the city, or level up a Bagon to level 30.
But why isn’t the Shelgon in your possession evolving now? Is there some secret trick? Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately), there is no trick. Dragon Type Pokemon are notorious for having three stages, with the third stage being an absolute grind to obtain.

Almost every Dragon Pokemon needs to be at least level 50 or higher to finally evolve into its third stage. And the same is true for Shelgon. For Shelgon to evolve into Salamence, you’ll need to get it to level 50. That’s a huge grind, but for a powerhouse like Salamence, it’s worth it.
Good luck evolving that Bagon, Trainer!
