How to Evolve Makuhita to Hariyama in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

I've never wanted a Pokemon to slap its belly for me more

There are 400 Pokemon scattered across the lush biomes of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea region, mingling together in a delicate, battle-hardened ecosystem. This diversity is one of the best aspects of the game, allowing trainers to build unique teams with all sorts of strengths and weaknesses.

But if you’re taking into consideration the Gym Challenge, one Pokemon typing might have drawn your eye – Fighting! This is the favored Type for Battle Instructor Dendra for a reason. Fighting Types are strong against Dark, Ice, Normal, Rock, and Steel Types. Which means a strong Fighting Type Pokemon is perfect against Medali’s Normal-Type Gym Leader, Larry and Glaseado’s Ice-Type Gym Leader, Grusha.

But there’s one Pokemon in particular that stands head and giant hands above the rest – Makuhita and Hariyama. But how do you get one on your team?

How to Evolve Makuhita to Hariyama in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Makuhita is fairly plentiful across the Paldea Region. You’ve likely seen it wandering Asado Desert, East Province Area One, East Province Area Two, East Province Area Three, South Province Area One, South Province Area Three, South Province Area Five, or West Province Area One.

But once you have the Guts Pokemon on your team, how do you get it to the next level?

It’s a fairly straightforward process. Many of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Pokemon have convoluted evolution methods, but for this Fighting Type you’ll only need to grind out levels.

Using its battle, or through exp share, get Makuhita to Level 24, and it should evolve into Hariyama. If you’re running into trouble, make sure that Makuhita hits Level 24 or higher from an actual battle or by digesting a bright blue Rare Candy or Exp. Candy. Doing so should net you the Arm Thrust Pokemon.

And with this Pokemon’s ability to use Belly Drum and Drain Punch, it’s likely you won’t need another Pokemon to lead your team for a long, long time.

Good luck getting that Hariyama, Trainer!
