How to Eavesdrop on Sims in The Sims 4: For Rent

To eavesdrop on a Sims household, visit any lot where at least two Sims are home and select their front door before picking the eavesdrop option. While doing this, your Sim will briefly stand by the door to listen in on their conversation before learning about a random secret.

If you don’t see this option on a house’s door, visit another lot and repeat this until you see it. I had to visit a San Sequoia house to find this for the first time.

Once you successfully learn about a secret through eavesdropping, you have two choices: do nothing about it or confront the Sim about their secret. After confronting them, you can either keep the secret, earning you increased friendship, or blackmail them into giving you money in exchange for keeping the secret.

How to Blackmail Sims in The Sims 4: For Rent

If you want to complete an aspiration or make some money through blackmailing others, you can confront a Sim after learning their secrets, then head into the Mean social menu and find Blackmail under Malicious. Doing this leads to you gaining around 100 Simoleons in exchange for keeping the secret.

From my experiences doing this in The Sims, there are no significant negative consequences for blackmailing other characters. Sims won’t become your enemy, start a fight with you, or even yell at you for doing this. You also won’t gain any negative sentiments for it. Instead, they show mild disappointment before moving on with the conversation.
