How to Easily Coerce in Octopath Traveler 2

The Sacred Flame approves of beating up villagers for gossip

Temenos is quite the character. No one really expects your local cleric to beat you up for information the moment the sun sets. While many innocent citizens you meet early in the game break easily enough, you will soon find that there are quite a few that are a little more stubborn. Here is how to easily coerce in Octopath Traveler 2.

Temenos begins his path as a Cleric with access to two primary offensive moves: the staff and holy magic. This simply will not cut it if you are hoping to pry out information from your victims. Fortunately, there is one method that will let you break almost anyone you come across.

That is by abusing Temenos’s Latent ability. Temenos’s latent ability allows any move to break your victim’s shields. Take advantage of this by equipping Temenos with a job that has access to a multi-hit move. My preferred is Elemental Barrage from the Scholar job.

Elemental Barrage is a fantastic move to lead in with, as it attacks three to five times with ice-, fire-, and lightning-type damage. Not only will this get the vast majority of opponents close to broken, it will also tell you what your opponent’s weakness is. Almost every character has at least one elemental weakness. And, failing that, they are likely weak to holy or staff.

However, if you have the terrible luck of meeting an opponent that has none of those weaknesses, just have Temenos sustain himself with Heal Wounds and wait for his latent ability to regenerate.

Another option, which almost guarantees a one round break, is to equip the Armsmaster job. The Armsmaster comes with the default skill Sixfold Strike, which attacks the enemy with six different physical weapons. Like Elemental Barrage, this is a great move for finding out your opponent’s weaknesses. But beyond that, there are very few opponents with over six shields.

Unfortunately, Armsmaster can be a little harder to obtain early on. But if you’re at least level 30, go grab that job as soon as possible. Learn more about how to unlock it here.
