How to Earn More SR in COD MW2 Ranked Play

There's a method to the madness.

So far, the base systems for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play have been some of the best in the series in terms of divisions and gameplay. However, the SR system has kept many players confused since its release, especially when the number gains seem to randomly change.

If you’ve been climbing the ranked ladder for a few weeks now, you may have run into a Skill Rating wall that rewards fewer points every match. There is a system behind all the chaos though, and we’ll outline exactly how you can start earning more SR in your COD MW2 Ranked Play matches.

COD MW2 Ranked Play – How to Earn More SR

The Bronze Division gives many players a false sense of progress because most players belong in a higher rank and they’ll end up earning anywhere from 80 to 190 SR for each win. As long as you continue to play well at an individual level, your rating will boost you further and further until you get around Platinum or Diamond.

At higher ranks, you might eventually hit a wall. After some wins, you might end up earning around 25 to 30 SR in MW2 Ranked Play. Meanwhile, your teammates are earning 60 to 80 still, even when you are playing just as well or even better in some cases. This is because the SR system is based on team performance at higher ranks as well, and it also takes into account your recent games.

You won’t start earning a ton of SR just for doing well with one victory. If you went negative in your last three matches, and even lost those as well, then your next good victory is still going to result in low gains. To start earning more consistently high SR in COD MW2 Ranked Play, you need to be at the top of the leaderboards, and keep your K/D around 1.3 at least. Your team doing well will boost those gains as well.

It’s a frustrating system, but it does really come down to getting better at the game for an extended period of time. Eventually, you’ll start to earn far more SR across consistent games.
