A common trope found across all horror media is the inability to contact law enforcement, which has been seen countless times in films, television, and videogames. In a fun spoof of this, the newly released Layers of Fear features a trophy/achievement called “It was worth a try” that tasks players with attempting to call the police. Here is how to obtain this highly missable trophy/achievement in Layers of Fear.
It Was Worth a Try Achievement – Explained
In Chapter 5 of the Painter’s Story, players will encounter an altered version of the artist’s office, with a hidden ringing phone that must be found.
The phone can be difficult to locate, but it is hidden behind a secret alcove. On the shelf by the window, interact with a book on the right side to trigger the secret passageway to open.
When you locate the ringing phone, there will be a short phone conversation, followed by a puzzle that requires you to input three specific numbers into the rotary phone. While the solution sequence can be found by looking at the painting in the office, in order to obtain the “It was worth a try” achievement, simply dial 9-1-1 into the phone instead.
