How to Dispose of Nuclear Waste in Satisfactory

Use the waste to destroy the waste.

Nuclear waste or specifically, Uranium Waste, is annoying to deal with in Satisfactory. Initially, there is no way to dispose of this waste as it isn’t used for any production lines, making it a “useless” resource. You can’t sink them in an Awesome Sink, so you’ll struggle with radiation wherever these are stored. Luckily, there’s a trick to dealing with this Nuclear Waste. Here’s how you can permanently dispose of Nuclear Waste or Uranium Waste in Satisfactory.

What to Do With Nuclear Waste in Satisfactory?

When you are powering Nuclear Power Plants, you need Uranium Fuel Rods as fuel. Once the rods are fully consumed, you’ll get Uranium Waste. Uranium Waste doesn’t go away, so you must put it in an Industrial Storage Container loop, as seen in the image above.

The reason why you need to stock them first is because you don’t have a way to dispose of them… yet. You must unlock the Tier 8 – Particle Enrichment milestone that unlocks Non-Fissile Uranium, Particle Accelerator, and more. Once you have this tech, you’ll have a way to use the Uranium Waste. If you take too long before reaching the milestone, you’ll have to increase your storage to keep storing the Uranium Waste, or it’ll jam your power.

Plutonium Fuel Rod Production Setup in Satisfactory

Here are the production lines you need in order:

  • 1 Water Extractor (underclocked to 30 Water per minute)
  • 1 Blender making Nitric Acid
  • 1 Refinery making Sulfuric Acid
  • 2 Constructors making Silica (underclocked to 66.66667 or 25 Silica per minute)
  • 2 Blenders making Non-Fissile Uranium (Water byproduct goes into Refinery making Sulfuric Acid)
  • 4 Constructors making Concrete
  • 1 Particle Accelerator making Plutonium Pellets
  • 4 Constructors making Concrete
  • 4 Assemblers making Encased Plutonium Cells

The water byproduct from the two Blenders must be merged and connected to the Refinery making Sulfuric Acid. The exact numbers match and it will self-sustain the Water needed by the Refinery. However, you need to jumpstart the production first by putting the Water Extractor into the Blender and Refinery, making the acids.

Once the Refinery is done making at least two pumps of Sulfuric Acid, you can delete the pipeline feeding the Refinery from the Water Extractor so it solely relies on the byproduct from the Blenders.

This is the initial setup for Plutonium Fuel Rods using 100 Uranium Waste per minute at 100% efficiency. Each Nuclear Power Plant produces 10 Uranium Waste per minute at 100% efficiency. So, you’ll need 10 Nuclear Power Plants for every Plutonium Fuel Rod production line.

If you need to scale it up, you just have to double every production line listed above.

Here are the raw resources you need for the production line:

  • Uranium Waste
  • Quartz to Silica
  • Sulfur to Sulfuric Acid (Sulfur and Water)
  • Nitrogen Gas to Nitric Acid (needs Water and Iron Plate)
  • Limestone to Concrete
  • Water

You’ll need a few of the following resources, but not enough to make a dedicated production line. It’s best to just take these from your existing storage:

  • Steel Beams
  • Electromagnetic Control Rods
  • Heat Sink
  • Iron Plates

More resources are needed, but you should grab them from your automated stockpiles. The whole production line doesn’t need these in bulk, so you want to bring these resources with a train transport system or a drone delivery system. If you lack these resources, you can have an automated production line for them specifically for Plutonium Fuel Rods, but it is recommended that you just scale up your previous production lines and deliver some to your Plutonium base.

Once you have the Plutonium Fuel Rods, sink them into an Awesome Sink. Yup, all that work to deal with the Uranium Waste. The reason is that using Plutonium Fuel Rods on Nuclear Power Plants will only give you more waste, but this time, Plutonium Waste.

The best nuclear power setup is to have it running indefinitely, and if you have a way to deal with the waste, you should use that method since there will be no problems in the future. It is still worth running Uranium Fuel Rods as the main fuel for the plants if you have no Uranium Waste problems.
