Where to Find the Mogryph in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom

The Mogryph is the final boss of the Gerudo Sanctum Dungeon in the Gerudo Desert. You can find the entrance to the Rift northeast of the Oasis once you’ve helped the Gerudo clear out the Southern Oasis Ruins Rift, the Ancestor’s Cave of Rest Rift, and the Southern Gerudo Desert Rift.

Like every Dungeon in Echoes of Wisdom, you will have to traverse the Still World to finally reach the entrance to the Dungeon proper.

You will then have to fight your way through the Dungeon itself to collect the key to unlock the Boss Door. The Gerudo Sanctum Dungeon has many twists and turns and many puzzles to solve. If you find yourself lost in the sandy pits, check out our Gerudo Sanctum Dungeon Guide to see the full walkthrough on how to complete it!

The Mogryph will be waiting for you in the final room of the Dungeon.

The Mogryph is a giant mole-like creature that can sprout wings and summon large tornadoes in the depths of the Gerudo Sanctum. At first, it may seem difficult to find an opening to land some hits, but there is one trick you can use to get the boss’s defenses down enough to defeat it.

Phase One

The first phase will begin with the Mogryph swiping waves of sand in your direction. Summon an Echo to fight by your side at this point. A flying one is great here, as it can avoid the Mogryph’s swipes while doing damage. You can also use Link’s Bow to land some extra hits before it dives under the sand, especially if the boss is distracted by one of your Echoes.

The Mogryph will circle the sand in the arena a few times. Take this opportunity to stand behind one of the four statues in the room. Eventually, the Mogryph will rise to the surface, so you know what direction it will charge in. The idea is to stand behind a statue so when he charges at you; he will bump into the statue instead and writhe around in pain for a while. That is your opportunity to strike!

After landing enough hits, the Mogryph will recover, and the battle will move on to the next phase.

Phase Two

In this phase, the Mogryph will grow wings and soar upward before summoning large tornadoes to follow you around the arena. These tornadoes can’t be blocked, only dodged. You can, however, use the Bow you will have picked up earlier in the Dungeon to hit the Mogryph while he’s in the air. Just make sure you don’t get caught up in those tornadoes.

He also has another new attack where he flies higher in the air before plunging into the sand below. Keep a close eye on the shadow the Mogryph casts as he’s flying so you know where he will land. Quickly move out of the way as he’s diving to steer clear of this attack.

After these two moves, the Mogryph will dive under the sand to charge again. Unfortunately, since the solid ground turns into quicksand at the beginning of this phase, all of the other statues have sunk into the sand. You will have to quickly summon your own statue Echo for him to bump into before landing your attacks.

You can purchase a pair of Gerudo Sandals from the shop in Gerudo Town for 400 Rupees. They will stop you from sinking into the quicksand, too!

Depending on how many times you managed to hit the Mogryph while he was in the air, you may be able to defeat the boss during the second phase. If not, he will recover and begin cycling through the same attacks from the second phase, plus the sand-swiping move from the first phase. Thankfully, he won’t add anything new to the mix. After knocking the Mogryph out one or two more times, he will be defeated, thus completing the Gerudo Sanctum Dungeon.
