How to Defeat Gentle Gaverus, Mistress of Hounds in Lords of the Fallen

Who let the dogs out?

None of the many bosses I fought in Lords of the Fallen made me pull at my hair quite like Gentle Gaverus, Mistress of Hounds. I’m okay in a one-on-one fight in Soulslike titles, but multi-boss fights and those with additional mobs throw me for a loop. If you’re like me, you need a helping hand. Here is how to defeat Gentle Gaverus, Mistress of Hounds, in Lords of the Fallen.

How to Beat Gentle Gaverus in Lords of the Fallen

Unlike in other Soulslike games, while challenging, the boss fights in Lords of the Fallen aren’t exceedingly so. Some are just downright annoying, though. Like Gentle Gaverus, the Mistress of Hounds. She’s a bow-wielding huntress who calls in hellhounds to attack from behind. They’re armored and fast-moving, which makes dodging them and her an absolute pain.

First and foremost, before we dive into the boss fight proper, do not forget to ride the elevator up to the Vestige. You’ll find the elevator in question just down the ladder, where two praying enemies wait, and then you’ll have to deal with three casters before hopping in; otherwise, you risk an untimely death.

With that out of the way, here’s how to defeat Gentle Gaverus, the Mistress of Hounds:

  • Gentle Gaverus is a ranged opponent, which means her entire goal is to put a bit of distance between you two so that she can land a few hits with her arrows. If you pin her against the arena wall, you can land a few solid hits before she pops a smoke bomb and disappears.
  • Relatively early in the boss fight, Gentle Gaverus will spawn three hounds to attack you from behind. When she does, focus on them. You’ll need to dodge her bow attacks while also continuously dodging their attacks, so it’s a bit frantic.
  • However, you do not need to keep your eyes on Gentle Gaverus at all times. She will cry out before an attack. When she does, dodge.
  • Always close the distance! Once the hounds are appropriately dealt with, close the distance with Gentle Gaverus and land as many hits as possible.

The critical thing to remember here is that Gentle Gaverus does not have a substantial health pool, unlike Pieta, She of the Blessed Renewal. She’s relatively weak and, as such, easily defeated once you learn her move set and deal with her summons.

Defeating one boss is a good step on the path to 100% in Lords of the Fallen. For that, you need the full Achievements List!
