How to Craft a Big Chest in Stardew Valley (1.6 Update)

More space is always welcomed.

The Stardew Valley 1.6 update is finally here, and while it adds a ton of new content, one addition, in particular, is something players have requested for years: Big Chests. Here’s how to unlock and craft a Big Chest in Stardew Valley.

How to Get the Big Chest Recipe in Stardew Valley

To unlock the Big Chest in Stardew Valley, you must purchase the Big Chest Recipe, sold by Robin for 5,000 Gold. You can access this at the start of the game, so don’t worry about not having progressed far enough. You’ll find Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop north of the Community Center, which is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (4:00 PM on Fridays) every day except Tuesdays. You can see the exact location of the Carpenter’s Shop in my Stardew Valley screenshot below:

How to Craft a Big Chest in Stardew Valley

To craft a Big Chest once you have the Big Chest Recipe unlocked, navigate to the Crafting tab in the menu. Here, you’ll be able to click on the Big Chest and craft it if you have the materials, after which it will appear in your inventory. You need the following materials to craft a Big Chest in Stardew Valley:

  • 120 Wood.
  • 2 Copper Bars.

Wood is chopped from trees using an Axe; you likely know this already. As for two Copper Bars, you’ll need to smelt 10 Copper Ores in a Furnace, along with two pieces of Coal. You can find both of these materials in the Mines.

A Big Chest has 70 storage slots in Stardew Valley, compared to a normal Chest’s 32 slots, so it’s a must-have for farmers who like to hoard materials and crops – such as the newly-added Carrots. I’m so happy that I no longer need to have 50 regular Chests scattered around my farm and can make things look a little neater.
