With the arrival of the Valentine’s Day 2023 event in Pokemon GO, Tapu Lele will become the featured Legendary in five-star raids for a full week. From February 8 to February 15, Trainers can take on the Land Spirit Pokemon for a chance at catching a shiny Tapu Lele.
In Pokemon GO, there are still a bunch of shiny forms missing from the overall Pokedex, and it makes collecting new ones a difficult task. During the Valentine’s Day 2023 event, shiny Tapu Lele will make a debut and that opens up the door for a rare Legendary catch. We’ll cover how you can increase those odds in our own event guide.
Pokemon GO – How to Catch Shiny Tapu Lele
There are no guarantees for a shiny in Pokemon GO aside from some rare encounters as part of Special Research. Most of the time though, we can only increase our odds of getting a rare catch. The bad news is that there are no increased odds for Tapu Lele during the Valentine’s Day 2023 event, but you likely won’t need them.
Raid bosses that you encounter as a reward usually have a 1 in 30 chance of appearing as a shiny. Wild spawns, in comparison, have a 1 in 500 chance of being shiny. That means you have a really high chance to catch a shiny Tapu Lele when you defeat the Legendary in a five-star raid.

The larger challenge will be getting enough Raid Passes to continue attempting the raids if you don’t get a shiny. Of course, you can use the free daily passes, but you’ll need to use them in person. Remote Raid passes can be used in bulk and are great when paired with a site like Raid NOW. With any luck, you’ll get the shiny Tapu Lele debut in Pokemon GO.
