How to Catch Shieldon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk

Gotta love a swarm of extinct Pokemon

Fossils are back in The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, but as already-resurrected Pokemon instead of items for you to breathe some life upon. Shieldon is one of them, and it’s out there available for catching for everyone who manages to find it.

Where to Find Shieldon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk

You can spot Shieldon in a secluded area in the Canyon Biome of the Terarium. Look out for the island with the heart-shaped lake and head there to find it. Walk for a bit around the zone and you should start seeing some Shieldon spawning here. It’s not exactly a rare spawn, but it might take a few seconds until you start seeing some of it.

Fun fact: the area itself is a homage to the Nature Preserve zone from Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, going as far as including a Tera encounter Haxorus as a reference to the original games where you could catch a Shiny Haxorus.

Shieldon is a Violet exclusive, meaning that you can’t catch it if you’re playing Scarlet. Scarlet players can find Cranidos in its place, which itself is unavailable for Violet players. Players will have to trade between versions to complete their Dex, but this is one of the most sought-after trades, so you shouldn’t have much trouble with it.

How to Catch Shieldon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

As for the catching itself, the usual trick is to throw a Quick Ball at your first turn as it has huge chances of succeeding. But if it fails, make sure to bring some Ultra Balls and start throwing them until Shieldon finally gives in. It doesn’t have a low catch rate, so you shouldn’t have much trouble with that.

Shieldon is vulnerable to the Spore-False Swipe combo you can make with certain Pokemon like Breloom or Smeargle. This is one of the most effective methods to catch those yet-unobtained Pokemon. Other stat effects like Paralyze or Freeze can also increase your catching rates.

Catching (or trading for) Shieldon and its evolution Bastiodon is necessary for filling your Pokedex and obtaining the final rewards. And based on all Blueberry Pokedex rewards in The Indigo Disk, they’re quite worth the effort, so don’t waste your time and start catching them all!
