At its core, finding Festive Fish is very similar to regular fishing. You see a colored circle in the water, cast your line and find the wonderfully festive fish in your inventory. However, there are a few caveats.

One of the most significant obstacles is waiting until December 18 before you can start catching Festive Fish. Not only has this been confirmed by players who time skipped, an example shown in a Reddit post by u/ValleyBilz, but the game’s creators have strongly eluded to this in various social media posts.

On December 18, red-and-green fishing spots will appear in various regions around the game that exclusively spawn Festive Fish. There is five fish total, each appearing in its own unique locations:

  • Festive Anglerfish – The Forgotten Lands
  • Festive Bass – Peaceful Meadow
  • Festive Fugu – Dazzle Beach
  • Festive Salmon – Sunlit Plateau
  • Festive Squid – Glade of Trust

From here, it’s just a matter of entering these areas, casting your line, and obtaining each fish. You’ll also progress through the “Even Fish are Festive” Dreamlight duty by catching all five!

Disney Dreamlight Valley is available to play on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation platforms through the official website.
