The First Descendant is one of the hardest bosses in the normal mode story missions in The First Descendant. It has some dangerous attacks, but it is the immune phase makes the encounter exceptionally hard. Here’s how to beat the Dreadful Abomination in The First Descendant, including stopping the immunity orbs from respawning again.
Dreadful Abomination Boss Guide – The First Descendant
The Dreadful Abomination is the last boss in the Bio-Lab Duty of the Ascendant Operation. This is one of the hardest tests for players progressing through the normal mode of the story. The Dreadful Abomination has a few dangerous attacks, but nothing too difficult compared to Void Intercept Battles like the Devourer or Dead Bride.
The boss lobs small circular toxic projectiles to a specific target, but it isn’t accurate. It only goes to the direction of the player. Once the projectiles land, they’ll stick to the surface and stay there for a long duration. If you run through them, they’ll explode for more than 50% of your HP. If you don’t have good defensive components active, the damage could go as high as 80% or even more for DPS Descendants.
Aside from this attack, the boss also targets a specific player and shoots at them for big damage. You can play around normally and seek cover until the boss switches targets.
Dreadful Abomination Immune Mechanics
Like many other bosses, the Dreadful Abomination has immune phases every time you go through one of its HP bars. However, the mechanics during these immune phases differ for each of the bosses. The Dreadful Abomination has a straightforward mechanic where it’ll spawn orbs or balls behind its back.
If you destroy all the orbs, the immunity disappears. The orbs are sturdier than other bosses because nobody is overgeared enough to compensate for some mistakes at this point of the mission.
Once you destroy an orb, you must immediately go for the other orbs, or they’ll respawn quickly. The trick here is to damage all the orbs simultaneously without breaking a single one. Once the shell of the orbs starts to crack, you can unleash an AoE ability or use a launcher.
You can also signal your team to shoot different orbs all at once. If you don’t get the timing correctly, it will respawn again. The respawn window on the orbs is so tight that you might only have 2 seconds to destroy all the orbs simultaneously. The good news is that the fight is simple. If you are dodging the toxic projectiles, you can retry as long as possible. The boss only spawns 3 to 5 monsters at a time, so everyone can replenish their MP, ammo, or HP.
Descendants like the starter Viessa or the early unlockable Bunny are perfect for the fight. They have abilities that deal massive AoE damage in a short amount of time. Once those orbs start cracking, everyone can spam their AoE abilities simultaneously to destroy them in a second. If you are playing with a random party, they’ll get accustomed to it after a few tries, or you can type the strategy in chat and hope they listen.
