If you are playing with a DualSense controller, you can sheathe your sword in Ghost of Tsushima by swiping right on the TouchPad. However, if you are using an Xbox controller, then all you need to do is to hold right on the D-Pad and the right analog stick to the right. Lastly, on a Keyboard and Mouse, you can simply press 5 on the keyboard to sheath your sword.

One thing to note is that there are different actions you can perform with the TouchPad on a DualSense controller, like playing a flute when you swipe to the left. But you will only sheathe your sword when you swipe to the right, and not in any other direction. Also, keep in mind that you won’t be able to perform other actions while in the middle of sheathing your sword.

For the most part, sheathing your sword is cosmetic. Nothing will happen if you forget to sheath your sword after a fight, but it is satisfying to watch after a heated battle. It makes Jin stay in character and walk around looking like a badass. You can also get some cool pictures with your sword in the sheath.

You can also get skins for your sheath by progressing further in the game. You can get them by completing Mythic Tales, collecting them from Pillar of Honor, or buying them from Merchants for flowers.

Now that you know how to sheathe your sword in Ghost of Tsushima, you should also learn about another cool mechanic in the game, Standoffs, and master it with the help of our Standoff Guide.
