Just How Scary is Dead Space

To borrow a phrase I used in another article, like beauty, horror is in the eye of the beholder. However, Dead Space is meant to be scary for its players. From creepy Necromorph enemies to scenes of blood and gore, jump scares, disturbing visuals, and an eerie musical score/sound effects, the developers have pulled out all the stops in an attempt to frighten anyone who plays the Dead Space Remake. The ultimate question is, what scares you? If you are afraid of sci-fi horror films like John Carpenter’s The Thing or the Alien franchise, you will most likely find yourself extremely creeped out by Dead Space. But that is kind of the point; the game is supposed to be scary. Hence it being in the horror genre.

Should You Play Dead Space, Even if It Scares You?

Barring medical conditions, anxiety disorders, extreme squeamishness, a doctor has urged you not to play scary games, etc., if you have the desire to play Dead Space, then by all means, you should give it a try, even if you are nervous. However, be warned that the Dead Space Remake has a $69.99 price tag on console and a $59.99 cost for PC, which could be a poor use of your hard-earned money if you won’t be unable to make it even fifteen minutes into the game.

If you are really concerned with whether or not you’ll be able to withstand a full playthrough of the Dead Space Remake, you could always watch some “Let’s Plays” or walkthroughs on Twitch or YouTube, or play the original version to test your mettle, such as on Xbox Game Pass where it is free with a subscription, as its graphics are not as realistic as the newest edition.
