Can You Pet Cats in Hogwarts Legacy? – Answered

Make some new Furriends... sorry.

What goes better together than a school full of Witches, Wizards and their signature pets, which happen to be cats in most cases? Luckily for us, Hogwarts Legacy is full of cats that are walking around minding their own business, and yes, you can even pet them as you adventure around.

Unlike so many other mechanics in the game though, there is never a tutorial for how to pet any of the furry friends wandering around. You either have to learn on your own like a true student in Hogwarts Legacy or go through our guide so you can enjoy some time petting cats in between quests in Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy – How to Pet Cats

The hardest part of petting a cat in Hogwarts Legacy is finding one, but the good news is that they are all over the place. If you wander around the halls of the school or venture into Hogsmeade, there are bound to be cats hanging around with plenty of different colors on their fur.

As soon as you see one, you will notice a white marker right above the cat, and that means you can interact with it. Get close enough to the cat that you see a button prompt and you should be golden. On a controller, the button is Square/X or your standard interaction key on a PC. Initiating the interaction will start a pseudo cutscene where your character pets the cat for a few moments.

Unfortunately, you cannot keep any of the cats for yourself. You can tame other magical beasts later in the game and bring them to your Vivarium. Cats are not one of those beasts in Hogwarts Legacy though. You will just have to pet the cats while you can and move on with your day in the Wizarding World.
