Having a variety of Pawns to fill out your party is often the difference between life and death in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Not only can you choose the specific Pawns that you like, but you can also further command them to do your bidding via Pawn Commands; here’s how.
What Pawn Commands Do in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Pawn Commands allow you additional control over the actions of the Pawns in your party in Dragon’s Dogma 2. There are four different commands, and each can be used both in and out of battle. While Pawns are generally reliable by themselves, sometimes they need an additional push to pursue the task you want them to do.
Go! Command
You will use the Go! Pawn Command the most as it is useful both in and out of battle. While out of battle, sometimes a Pawn (particularly one that you have hired as they frequently arrive with additional knowledge) will mention that they know where a chest is, a location, or even a shortcut, and they will ask you if you want them to show you the way. Once the Pawn asks if you want their help, select the Go! Command and they will lead you in the correct direction. You will know this has worked when they have a hand icon next to their name.
Using the Go! Pawn Command in battle signals to the Pawns that you want them to fight the enemy, and they immediately run forth to attack it. This is convenient if you want them to get a head start on an opponent or if they were performing another activity, such as healing you, and need to return to the battle.
You can activate the Go! command by pressing Up on your controller or 1 on your keyboard.
To Me! Command
The To Me! Pawn Command is particularly useful as a defensive tactic when seeking a potential retreat from a battle. The potential to be overwhelmed by multiple enemies at once is high, and there will be times when you are ill-prepared for such an onslaught. Instead of sacrificing your Pawns to the Gods, you can call them back using the To me! Command while running away, and they will retreat alongside you.
You can activate the To me! command by pressing Down on your controller or 2 on your keyboard.
Help! Command
The Help! Pawn Command is a useful tool during a battle in Dragon’s Dogma 2, as it signifies to the Mage in your party that you need healing, and they will immediately begin to do so. It also works outside of battle, no matter how much or how little health you currently have. Your Mage is decent at healing independently, but it’s nice to take the guesswork out of it and be healed on command.
You can activate the Help! command by pressing Left on your controller or 3 on your keyboard.
Wait! Command
The Help! Pawn Command is a useful tool during a battle in Dragon’s Dogma 2, as it signifies to the Mage in your party that you need healing, and they will immediately begin to do so. It also works outside of battle, no matter how much or how little health you currently have. Your Mage is decent at healing independently, but it’s nice to take the guesswork out of it and be healed on command.
You can activate the Wait! command by pressing right on your controller or 4 on your keyboard.
Whilst the Pawn system isn’t flawless in Dragon’s Dogma 2, it is far superior to the system in the original game. The Pawns do pull their weight in battle and exploration, and they feel much more organic and less stiff than those in the first game. Gaining a little more control over them is just the icing on the cake.
