How Long is Live a Live? – Answered

Speedrun through the ages!

The original Live a Live was released on September 2, 1994, exclusively in Japan for the Super Famicom (Japanese SNES). Fast forward to July 2022 and we’ve only now seen a proper Western release in the form of a very good HD-2D remake for the Nintendo Switch. Although this title enjoyed certain cult popularity among retro fans and emulation enthusiasts, many players will encounter the characters and stories of this old-school JRPG for the first time.

How Long is Live a Live?

Although Live a Live contains nine different scenarios, it’s not a very long game, it’s just that you’ll need a little more time to go through some of the stories for the first time. According to limited data on howlongtobeat.com and our personal, perhaps a bit too detailed, experience, it takes over 20 hours to complete the main story. An additional 4-5 hours will be needed to complete some of the extra content, and for the full completionist run, it takes about 35 hours. These figures are somewhat in line with the time it took to finish the original 16bit game that this awesome remaster is based on.

So, Live a Live doesn’t require an enormous amount of time to finish like other modern JRPGs but for a long time, 20 to 30 hours was considered the industry standard for the genre, making the new remake fall into that category perfectly.

Live a Live is available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch – there is even a free demo in the Nintendo eShop if you’re on the fence.
