Once the next update rolls out, Rocket League will be implementing the long-awaited cross-platform progression feature. Now that Rocket League has entered the free to play arena, this feature is more important than ever. Once it rolls out, this new function will allow players to bring their Rank, Rocket Pass, and inventory data to whichever platform they wish to play Rocket League on. How does it work, though? All you need upfront is an Epic Games account.
How Will Cross-Platform progression Work in Rocket League?
Per Rocket League developer Psyonix, the cross-platform progression feature will be governed by Epic Games’ account structure, which makes sense considering the recent acquisition. Once the update launches, Rocket League will ask for your Epic Games credentials as soon as the game boots up. You’ll be asked to select your primary platform, which will become the “hub” of sorts for your progress. So if you’re playing on multiple platforms already, make sure you set the one you want to keep as your primary.
After that, you can link all your secondary platform accounts. If you’ve already done this in other games such as Fortnite or Dauntless, Rocket League will just import that data. Also, once you link your Epic Games account to Rocket League, you’ll get the pictured Chopper EG Wheels as a reward.

Just about everything you’d expect to be sharable will be shared across all platforms. But due to everything that has been implemented in Rocket League over the years, there will be some content that can’t move between linked accounts. Here’s a list of what will be stuck on whichever platform you got it on:
- Platform-Exclusive Items: e.g., Sweet Tooth, Hogsticker, Armadillo, Mario and Luigi NSR, and Samus’ Gunship
- Ultimate Edition On-Disc DLC: Batman/DC Superheroes Pack
- Premium DLC Packs: licensed content that was previously available in the Showroom (e.g., Back To The Future, Jurassic World, DC Superheroes, Fast and the Furious, Ghostbusters, Knight Rider, etc.)
- Credits and Esports tokens balances
Psyonix notes the above content won’t disappear, but it will only be available on the native platforms. Also, the Premium DLC restriction is temporary; Psyonix is working the nitty-gritty out there but it won’t work out by launch time.
The final bit of important information involves trading between players. There are restrictions, which Psyonix attributes to fraud prevention measures. For starters, anything purchased via Credits, much like the Credits themselves, can only be traded on the purchasing platform. Also, trades can only be initiated by players on the same platform. So you’ll have to choose a meeting place for your trade buddies. Also, before anyone can use their account to trade, they must make purchases that add up to at least 500 credits at a minimum. Anyone who purchased or purchases Rocket League before it goes free to play will be exempt.

That’s the long and short of cross-platform progression in Rocket League. Are you excited about this new feature, or do some of the restrictions put you off a bit?
