If you’ve been keeping up on Starfield for the past few years, you may already know it is a massive game. Most people would expect it to be around 50-75 gigs, but I’m here to tell you it’s way more. It isn’t the largest game released in the past few years, but if you have multiple big games downloaded, you’ll have to watch your storage space with this one. If you want to prepare your storage devices ahead of time, continue reading to learn Starfield’s file size and how much space it’ll take up on your PC or Xbox.
How Much Storage Space Does Starfield Take Up?
Starfield takes up around 115-135 GB of space, depending on what platform and version you’re downloading. With Standard Edition on Game Pass, preloading it alone requires over 116 GB of hard drive space, with more to come after its release. Similarly, playing on Xbox will require you to use up around 125 GB of space. If you have the extra content that Premium and Constellation Editions provide, you can expect this number to be slightly higher.

As the game releases more updates and patches, this number will continue to rise over the years and may even surpass its estimated 125 GB requirement.
With that said, this confirms that Starfield’s Steam page estimate of 125 GB doesn’t lie. It surpasses the 100 GB mark and will only increase, especially if you’re an avid mod fan and plan on downloading some after the game’s release to make things more interesting.
In short, watch your storage space; Starfield’s hefty size can quickly eat away at a good chunk of your hard drive or SSD, especially if you tend to keep games installed for extended periods.
Starfield will be available on September 6, 2023, on PC and Xbox Series X|S. To learn more about the game, check out how Post Malone is just as excited for Starfield as we are, or click the game tag below to browse our growing content collection!
