Gul’dan officially entered the Nexus this morning and newcomers are having an issue keeping him alive because positioning is so important. We’ve got a few tips to help you stay out of harm’s way while still blasting the opposition with his trademark Fel magic. There are a few different builds which we’ll cover over the next few days, but for now let’s get started with some positioning advice.
You always need to be on the back line as Gul’dan. You don’t have a good means of escape until level 20, which means that almost any hero with even a lackluster ability to chase you down, stun or root you can take out Gul’dan. If you’re in the back line you won’t have far to move to get to the safety of your forts, and hopefully your tank is keeping an eye out to peel if you do get into trouble.
Of course from the back line it may be difficult for newcomers to use Drain Life (W) from the back line. If you really need to use Drain Life and it’s dangerous to move up, target the closest minion. You don’t always have to use Drain Life on an opposing hero. In fact, once you get a few of Gul’dans talents, minions can be a very good source of health when you need to replenish.
While you may think it’s best to move up a bit, you always have to watch out for a flank from the opposing team. If this does happen and you can’t move back to the safety of the fort, push forward to your tank. Not all tanks keep an eye on the back line, and if you’re in trouble, the closer you get to your tank the easier it will be for them to see you and peel away the danger.
We’ll have more on Gul’dan in the coming days and weeks, including a full breakdown of his most popular builds. For now, hopefully these small positioning tips will keep you alive.
