If you’re a fan of the multiplayer modes in Halo 5: Guardians, you came across the new Requisition System, also known as the REQ System. While playing through matches alongside your friends and enemies, you’ll be able to build up points, which in turn can be used to purchase REQ packs with cards inside. You’ll be able to use these cards over the course of multiplayer matches to gain advantages in modes like Warzone.
Earning points is easy. You gain more depending on what you do during each match, with more coming for particular tasks, like overtaking a certain objective or scoring a headshot. If your Halo skills need improvement, don’t worry. You’ll still earn points. The goal is to remain involved in the multiplayer match and stay competitive (no quitting). Do this and you’ll earn points for REQ Packs.
REQ Card Types
There are two types of REQ Cards, permanent cards and single use. Permanent cards remain unlocked with your character the whole time, while single-use only last the duration of the match, disappearing after you equip them.
The permanent cards are mostly for the sake of looks, including personal loadout weapons, assassination animations, player stances, emblems and other things. These as the most valuable rewards to earn over the course of a match, since they’ll stay with your loadout and help establish your character with the online community. These unique customizations are a great way to show off.
Single-use cards consist of multiple items, including power-ups, vehicles and weapons. They’re exclusive with the Warzone mode, however, so you won’t be able to use them in Arena, unless they’re the REQ Point Grant or XP Boost cards.
The five different types of REQ cards in the game include the following: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra Rare and Legendary, which grow in rarity with each class. You’ll see each one marked off with different colors so you know which is which. You’ll need to have a certain amount of energy in order to activate them, depending on what’s required for activation. You earn this energy through REQ levels obtained over the course of multiplayer matches, achieved through victories and completing objectives.
The rarer items pay off when it comes to power and cost, as some of the bigger ones can turn the tide of battle. You’ll even see a few of these stand out in packs, with a Mythic Status ribbon tacked on for good measure.
REQ Pack Types
Look for REQ Packs in the Store section of the Spartan Hub, which you can purchase with Requisition Points earned from playing matches. You can also use real money in case to get the rare items right away. The packs are divided into different types, each one with different costs and values. These include Bronze, Silver, Gold, Premium, Promotion and Supply. There are also Spartan Rank and Commendation Packs that open up, depending how well you do with reaching particular milestones and ranks.
The chances of picking up a rare card will increase when you purchase some of the pricier packs available in the store. Gold REQ packs, for instance, will have more cards available, as well as better opportunities to acquire a Legendary card. You’ll also get two guaranteed permanent REQ cards with each pack. Silver packs have their fair share as well, so if you want more permanent cards, you’ll definitely want to spring for the more expensive Silver and Gold packs. If you get too many single-use cards in the process – and prefer the more permanent type – you can always sell these for points via exchange, and then use those points to purchase the more expensive packs. Common cards won’t be worth that much, but rarer ones will.
How to Use REQ Cards
In order to activate REQ Cards, track down a REQ Station during a match (you’ll usually find them in your home base). These will allow you to activate single-use cards for weapons and vehicles. You can also buy them in the menu while waiting to respawn, if necessary. However, keep in mind that for specific items, you’ll need to be at a particular REQ level to redeem them. You should have no trouble activating weapons once purchased, but other items like Power Weapons, Vehicles and Boosts will be lost after you die. Be careful which ones you choose.
