As part of the recent Pokemon GO festivities, the community was promised a Nidorino and Gengar raid day, and hey, it’s upon us. When you’re taking down Nidorino and Gengar in raids on Sunday 1 March, there’s going to be an increased appearance rate for the Shiny version of those Pokemon for a time so now’s the time to make sure that your collection of Pokemon is illuminated. You can also get Shiny Party Hat version of these Pokemon, and you’ll know from previous guides about how much we love Party Hat critters. Without further ado, here’s the lowdown on Gengar raid counters in Pokemon GO.
Gengar Weakness – Gengar Raid Counters in Pokemon GO
So, you’re wanting to take down Gengar for yourself. Well, you’re going to have to be clued in on Gengar’s weaknesses. This Ghost and Poison Type Pokemon is definitely no stranger to the franchise; we’d argue it’s earned its status as a legacy fan favorite here, but that doesn’t make it any easier to defeat. Gengar is weak against Dark, Ground, Ghost, and Psychic Type Pokemon. We’ve compiled a list of some handy counters for your reference, along with the moves that we reckon they should be rocking. We’re going to be gunning for Ground and Psychic Type Pokemon, but don’t forget that if things get super dire, Gengar is also weak against Ghost Pokemon so you could probably cobble a team together from spooky scraps. Alright, here are our counter recommendations:
- Mewtwo – Confusion and Shadow Ball
- Groudon – Mud Shot and Earthquake
- Gengar – Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
- Tyranitar – Bite and Crunch
- Alakazam – Confusion and Future Sight
As you can see, we’ve put the rather ambitious Mewtwo at the top of our list of suggested counters. It’s super strong and sure, it isn’t the tankiest Pokemon but you’re going to be wanting to take down Gengar fast if you’re leading with a strategy like this. Another alternative is Groudon and we would also rank this red lizard pretty high because of its Ground Typing. If you have the weather on your side as well then it’s going to pack even more of a punch, so keep an eye out. Otherwise, we think you’ll be well-served by all the Pokemon on our raid counters list, so go hard and with confidence if you have them as your line-up.
Now that you’ve got our information on the various Gengar raid counters in Pokemon GO, it should be easy enough for you to take one of these spooky lads done and to roll the dice on whether or not you get a Shiny or a Party Hat Shiny version of it. Cool, huh? We love little events like this in Pokemon GO, and while Shiny Gengar is a little harder to differentiate from its regular form, these raids are still some of the most fun we’ve had in a bit so we’re more than happy to help.
