Controlling Phoenix is actually quite simple; you only have access to a few buttons. Your primary way of dealing damage is to track your cursor over Ifrit as it jumps and flies around. Hitting the Triangle button will unleash volleys of fire upon Ifrit. Hold down the Triangle button always, as there’s no limit to how much you can shoot. So constantly track your cursor over FIrit until it turns into a circle; that’s how you know the fire will hit the Eikon of Fire and deal damage.

Using R1 is crucial in this fight. Anytime Ifrit charges towards you, use R1 to evade. If you do a precision dodge (which is done by dodging at the last possible second), you can hit Triangle to do a little extra damage in the form of a counterattack.

When you get Ifrit’s health down to about the halfway mark, the cinematic will take over, and you’ll need to be ready to hit and mash square when the cinematic strike button appears on the screen. You’ll know it’s coming when the corners of the screen turn blue.

Use this to deal even more damage to Ifrit. Rinse and repeat this process to finish the fight. You can be pretty liberal with the dodge button if you’re having trouble.
