All New Additions in Overwatch 2 Season 8

Season 8: Call of the Hunt is bringing a ton of new additions to the game, both permanent and temporary. From a new hero to new events, there’s tons to be excited for.

Mauga Joins the Battle

Mauga is releasing with the launch of Season 8. This new tank brings two large miniguns, with one igniting targets and the other doing more damage to targets on fire. He even brings a large cage, letting him single out targets while having infinite ammo to deal as much damage as possible. If you played him during the trial period with BlizzCon, he’s received a handful of buffs since then, which should help nicely.

Call of the Hunt’s New Battle Pass and Mode

As is customary with each season, Season 8: Call of the Hunt brings a new battle pass focused on hunting down large beasts. Characters like Ana, Widow, and even Mauga are hunting legendary beasts. This season finds its legendary beast in the form of the Great Beast Mythic skin for Orisa, available at the final tier of this season’s pass. Alongside the new pass is a 4v4 PvPvE mode, seeing two teams attempt to take down the enemy Grand Beast while protecting their own.

New Hero Mastery Missions

If you’ve enjoyed hitting the high scores with all heroes in Hero Mastery, that mode is expanding to host many new characters. Mei, Lucio, Genji, D.Va, and Echo can all try new mastery missions, offering new challenges to test your skills. Between you and me, I expect many Genji players will be sweating for the world record on these courses.

Winter Wonderland and Year of the Dragon Events Bring Fresh Changes

Both of the events this season, celebrating the holiday season and Chinese New Year, will get a few changes to help make them feel fresh. Winter Wonderland is getting the most changes of all, with its challenges offering the choice of one of three legendary skins (for Baptiste, Illari, and Cassidy), along with the Winter Fair offering a new ticket system that will reward you for completing matches in any mode.

As for the Year of the Dragon, you’ll see your usual assortment of skins and usual event goodies, along with Mischief and Magic’s return on the Lijiang Night Market map. Winter Wonderland begins on December 19, while Year of the Dragon begins on January 30.

New Weapon Skins for the First Time in Overwatch History

For the first time since Overwatch’s original launch, new weapon skins are being added. These are skins that will persist no matter which skin you choose for a character. For this initial phase, Reinhardt, Reaper, and Mercy have all received the new Hard Light Weapon skins, which offer a color scheme similar to Echo’s default skin. More weapon skins are promised to be on the way.
