Elden Ring’s open world is rich with NPCs that help you become the next Elder Lord. The Witchbane Ruins NPC known as Sellen is a must find for any Elden Ring magic players.
The Sorceress Sellen is a rather important character for magic lovers as she helps them in imaginable ways. Unfortunately, she now lies imprisoned at Wichbane Ruins and needs your help.
How to Trigger Sorceress Sellen Questline in Elden Ring
You are first introduced to Sellen after defeating the Mad Pumpkin Head boss at the Waypoint Ruins in Limgrave.
Find the back doors in the cellar behind which Sellen awaits you. She will offer you to study magic under her, and once you accept it, will sell you Elden Ring sorceries. By accepting her studies, you have triggered the main quest for Sellen, the Witchbane Ruins NPC.
How to Free Sellen the Witchbane Ruins NPC in Elden Ring
Continue further through the game to get to the next part of her quest. However, there are several prerequisites, including slaying the main boss of the Raya Lucaria Academy, Rennala.
Predominantly, the most challenging point in the task will be killing the Starscourage Radahn at Redmane Castle.
Once you have slain him, Sellen’s projection will approach you and point you to the Witchbane Ruins in the Weeping Peninsula, claiming that her physical form is shackled there.
Locate the Walking Mausoleum and head down the staircase that leads to the cellar. Once you enter, you will notice Sellen chained to the wall. Speak to her, and she will reward you with her Primal Glinstone.
Your next task is to take the Primal Glinstone to another version of Sellen, different from Limgrave and Witchbane Ruins.
Head out to the ruins between Ranni’s Rise and Renna’s Rise. You will notice a secret floor between the two rows of archways. To open the floor, simply make two downward attacks or jump attacks.
Once the floor is broken, it reveals the concealed staircase that leads you to an ominous ‘don’t touch message’ on the walls but ignore it. Reveal the hidden wall behind the same message. Well done, you have now found the real Sellen and freed the Witchbane Ruins NPC.
Witchhunter Jerren Introduction
Hand over the Primal Glinstone to her. Now, head out to Redmane Castle to speak with Witchhunter Jerren if you haven’t talked to him after you defeated Radahn. If you have already completed this conversation, return directly to Witchbane Ruins.
You will be greeted by Jerren at the cellar where you encountered Sellen shackled as he has killed her body. Complete the dialogue with Jerren once more and then head out to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library site of Grace. This is where you fought Rennala.
Choose Between Sellen and Jerren
You are almost there. Find the two summon signs by the boss room door – one for Jerren and one for Sellen. You’ll be prompted to choose whom you want to help between the two.
If you summon Sellen and kill Jerren, you will receive:
- Eccentric’s Armor set
- Glintstone Kris dagger
- Shard Spiral sorcery (added to shop)
- Witch’s Glintstone Crown
However, if you summon Jerren to help him kill Sellen, you will receive:
- Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone
- Rune Arc
- Furlcalling Finger Remedy
- Selen’s Bell Bearing
- Witch’s Glintstone Crown
