I’m a sucker for a big barbarian or warrior class in an RPG, especially an MMORPG, where I can take all the aggro, absorb damage, and dish out my own in kind. But many games are changing up how their class systems work, so does Pax Dei have traditional classes?
Can You Play Traditional Classes in Pax Dei?
Unlike in, say, more popular MMORPGs, such as The Elder Scrolls Online, World of Warcraft, and Final Fantasy XIV, Pax Dei takes a different approach altogether. Instead of traditional classes, they’re opting for a classless system. You won’t choose to play as a Warrior, Ranger, or Druid. Instead, you’ll craft your character and adapt on the fly to enemy encounters and dungeons.
However, Pax Dei does feature roles. The MMORPG offers the Holy Trinity—Tank, Healing/Support, DPS—like other popular games in the genre. If you want to take on the role of a tank, helping your group clear a dungeon from the front, that’s an option. If you prefer supporting damage dealers with buffs and healing spells, Pax Dei allows you to specialize.
There’s enough familiarity here to entice long-time genre fans, but the variation creates a more unique approach that should prove entertaining and fresh!
Does Pax Dei Feature Other Races?
We all have a preferred race in our favorite MMORPG. For me, it’s an Orc or Dwarf in World of Warcraft. I alternate between the two, depending on how spicy I’m feeling that month. But Pax Dei, once again, mixes up the usual formula. Instead of a handful of fantasy races or even just a bunch of humans from different regions, everyone plays as a Human. There’s no other race to select during character creation.
Through a mixture of weapons, armor, skills, and magic, you’ll create a “class” for yourself and venture into the world of Pax Dei alongside others just figuring out their spot in the world. It’s a fun premise and one we’re excited to get our hands on when the game enters Early Access on June 18!
