No dust to sweep here, pal

Minecraft Sweeping Edge Bedrock

Whether you’re trying to create an extensive, concise world on Minecraft or are just going through that yearly ritual of maniacally playing it for a week and then abandoning the game completely for a long time, enchantments are essential for your most used tools and weapons. One of those enchantments is Sweeping Edge, a spell reserved exclusively for a sword, the classic and most trusted weapon in the game. It’s a popular enchantment for Minecraft Java versions, but is it also present in the Bedrock versions?

Bedrock doesn’t include Sweeping Edge because there’s no sword sweep at all in the game. One of the main combat differences between both versions is the absence of this extra sword technique in Bedrock, and you can only use this AoE move in the Java versions of the game. Therefore, it would make no sense to include an enchantment that increases a non-existent move’s damage in the game.

Sweeping happens whenever a standing (or slowly moving) player equipped with a sword spams the attack button before the recharge bar is complete. Instead of the usual vertical slash, your character does a horizontal hit with a small knockback effect attached to it, useful to get some breathing space against hordes of enemies. It does less damage than regular slashes but the knockback can come in handy during dire situations, and you have access to the Sweeping Edge enchantment that boosts this very move to deal up to 75% bonus damage.

There seems to be no actual explanation for exactly why Bedrock decided to remove this maneuver, but it isn’t included and neither is its related enchantment. Swords have higher damage and no cooldown in these editions to balance things out, though, making them excellent offensive weapons. With little to no utility, but powerful nonetheless. Fair, I guess.
