The Firefly drone is one of The Division 2’s best companions, and will help you out of situations where you’re heavily outmanned or outgunned. It can be tweaked to become a distraction or weapon, so understanding how to use it is very important. In this guide, we’ll run you through the Firefly skills and mods to help you use it best.

The Firefly is a flying drone companion, but unlike a regular drone, it’s not used to mark enemies or provide support from a distance. The Firefly will instead actively engaging anyone you run into, and can prove pivotal in some fights. To unlock the Firefly you’ll need to spend one skill point, with each further mod costing another skill point. The Firefly has three main mods that change how it behaves when deployed, which we’ll cover below.

Blinder

This Firefly mod will turn your drone pal into an airborne flashbang that’ll fly directly at enemies and stun them. Most blinded enemies won’t be able to aim, and many will struggle to move, letting you lay down some gunfire or reposition to a safer spot. When you’re taking on powerful enemies, you should try to chain the Blinder effect with other status effects to keep them locked down for extended periods.

Demolisher

The Demolisher Firefly mod effectively turns your drone into a miniature bomb, designed to seek out enemy explosives, skill proxies and weak points. It’ll only attack enemies with weak points or environmental explosives, so don’t try to use it against generic foes. It’s got a long cooldown and is liable to be shot down, so it’s best not to just throw this out during a hectic fight.

Burster

The Burster is the most unusual Firefly mod. This one will tag enemies that you target with magnetic shrapnel. If enough tagged enemies get close to each other, the shrapnel will detonate, hurting them all. You can also shoot any tagged enemies to set them off and chain to the next tagged target. It’s effective against large groups of enemies, and with the option to detonate them manually, Burster makes your Firefly a very handy tool indeed.
