Dark Souls 3’s newest DLC, The Ringed City, launched today and players everywhere are already diving into the new area. In this article we’ll show you how to help Lapp, a knight suffering from amnesia that players can run into early in the DLC’s story. Keep reading to find out where Lapp can be found, where to find the Purging Monument, and how to solve the “Show me your Humanity” riddle.
How to Find Lapp
You can first encounter Lapp after reaching the Dreg Heap, the opening area of the new DLC. From the first bonfire, head down the hill and turn left into the ruins. Look for some crumbling stones on the right, and then fall down into the library. Exit the library and turn to the right, hugging the wall past the first angel that you see. Enter the building directly ahead, and then exit through the door on your right. Now, turn left and a tower will fall, creating a bridge of sorts inside the building. You’ll find Lapp across the crumbled tower.
Next, you need to find Lapp a second time. Head to the Earthen Peak Ruins bonfire, and look for him nearby. He’ll tell you about a treasure in the swamp. To find said treasure, head into the swamp, past the cottage, and into the cave under the massive roots. Keep close to the wall and follow the tunnel until it dead ends and you find a Titanite Slab. Now, head back to the bonfire and talk to Lapp once more.
The third encounter takes place on the balcony near the Ringed Inner Wall bonfire, which is just across the room from the gate that leads to the elevator shortcut in this section of the DLC.
You’ll encounter Lapp a fourth time in the swamp. Keep close to the left wall until you spot a ladder. Climb up the ladder and then continue left, into a circular room just beyond several Ringed Knights. Lapp is inside the room, sitting in a chair. After this meeting you can find the Purging Monument, which will help Lapp remember who he is.
How to Find the Purging Monument
To find the Purging Monument you’re going to need to solve the Show Your Humanity riddle in Dark Souls 3’s new DLC. Before you can solve the riddle, though, you must first locate it. Head to the Ringed City Streets bonfire, and then make your way through the metal gate between two suits of armor. Look to your right to notice a broken statue on the ground. There’s a mysterious engraving on the wall above the broken statue that reads “Show Your Humanity”.
To complete the riddle, head back to the room with the bonfire and exit through the door on the opposite side, this door leads back into the swamp. Once here, use either a White Branch or a Chameleon Spell. Doing so will turn you into a Humanity—yes, that Humanity. Now, while in your wispy Humanity form, return to the riddle and a ladder will appear.
Climb up the ladder to end up within a garden full of white flowers. Look around, loot any good items you find, and then search in this area until you locate the somewhat gross looking Purging Monument. Now that you know where it is, it’s time to locate Lapp again, and tell him about it. Head back to the fourth location you encountered Lapp, and tell him about the monument.
Finding Out Who Lapp Is
From here, continue through the game until you reach the Shared Grave Bonfire, where you fight Darkeater Midir the first time. Head across the nearby stone bridge and then follow the path to the right to reach a room where Lapp is seated on the ground. He knows his identity now, and rewards you by telling you about a nearby treasure. Follow his instruction and head to the edge of the broken staircase just outside of the room. A cutscene will trigger, and Lapp will kick you off, revealing that he is in fact, Patches—the friendly Dark Souls troublemaker. He’ll leave his armor on the ground and vanish from sight. Make sure to return to where he kicked you off to find Lapp’s Armor on the ground.
You could also just murder Lapp and then buy his armor from the Handmaiden in Firelink Shrine, but you’d be missing out on a nice nod to one of Dark Souls’ best characters.
