How To Play Honkai Star Rail on Steam Deck

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first and foremost: you cannot natively play Honkai Star Rail on the Steam Deck. The title is unavailable via the Steam store, meaning that you cannot download it and play it like you would any other game in your library.

However, where there’s a will, there’s a way. If you’re one of the many that have decided to install Windows on their Steam Deck to dual-boot operating systems, you’ll be able to download and play this exciting new game without much of an issue. While there is bound to be a way around it on the standard Steam OS in the form of Proton Support in the future, the only current way to play on the go is by downloading and installing Windows either onto the SD card or as a partition on the main hard drive.

The same goes for Genshin Impact, the precursor to this epic turn-based RPG. If you’re looking to game on the couch without playing on the TV, the only way to play that particular action RPG is by installing Windows. There was a brief window of support via the .exe file, but that came to a close with the most recent update, leaving Steam OS users in the dark once again.

Only time will tell if there will be proper Proton Support for this game, but if you need to play this exclusively on Steam Deck, you’ll have to go to the dark side of the room and open the Window(s). Be sure to check out our Honkai Star Rail section below to get all of the information you need!
