How To Play Genshin Impact on Mac? – Explained

Luckily, you actually can play Genshin Impact on most modern Macs. This is achieved through a few different means that can be free or paid, and we’ll list the most important ones below.

How to Play Genshin Impact on Mac via GeForce Now

GeForce Now, a famous cloud gaming service has gotten Genshin Impact recently, which means you can use the service to boot up Genshin Impact on your Mac. Luckily, there is a free trial that you can use to see if it works properly on your Mac, and then commit funds to a membership which will allow you to enjoy the game a handful of hours per day. Consult the official GeForce Now page for current pricing and conditions.

How to Play Genshin Impact on Mac via BlueStacks

At the time of writing this article, BlueStacks 4 is available for macOS (BlueStacks 5 is under development). It is essentially a free Android emulator which you can use to download Genshin Impact through the Google Play Store and technically play the Android version of Genshin Impact on your Mac. Controls are (sort of) optimized for Keyboard and Mouse but you can make some adjustments on your end.

How to Play Genshin Impact on Mac via Virtual Machine for Windows

This is more of an advanced procedure that might be complicated for inexperienced Mac users. We have tried to assemble a beginner-friendly guide, though:

  1. Download the ISO image file from Microsoft’s website (absolutely free of charge). Also, please check if your Mac is 32bit or 64bit, as this will matter later.
  2. Grab a USB stick drive with a minimum of 8 GB of memory and confirm that it is absolutely empty. If you have any files you need, backup them, and then, you should format the USB Stick Drive.
  3. On your Mac, please locate your Boot Camp Assistant through Finder -> Applications -> Utilities, and then, go to the ISO Image option. It will ask you to find where your downloaded Windows 10 image is. Additionally, you should select your USB stick drive that you have just formatted as well.
This will copy the image file that you have downloaded from Microsoft’s website onto the USB stick drive since this will be necessary during the installation of Windows (basically the same procedure for when you intend to install Windows on a fresh PC). If the USB stick drive reports an error at any given moment during this process, please make sure that it’s formatted as a bootable USB drive (there are many open-source and free tools that can make this happen for you, but we can’t really advertise them here).
  4. Next thing you need to do is to decide on the size that you want the Windows partition to have dedicated for itself.
To be safe, make it 50 GB by sliding the bar to the right, because Genshin Impact can REALLY get big over time.
  5. After some downloads are finished, your Mac will attempt to reboot and walk into Windows installation. The process won’t be much difficult, since today’s Windows installation is made to be pretty simple and in essence, just involves a lot of “Next” button clicking until it’s completely installed.
  6. When your Mac finishes the process and your Windows is installed and fully updated you will be in the position to install Genshin Impact on your Mac.

It is important to mention that you can only install Boot Camp on Intel-based Macs at this moment.
This means that if you have an M-chip machine right now, you won’t be able to install Windows until Apple makes a decision that they will enable you to run the Virtual Machine.
