There may be a bit of FOMO for Final Fantasy fans if they’re not jumping into the world of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth — especially if they haven’t played Remake or Interegrade before it. Should you jump right in, or is a marathon of FF7 content recommended?
Should You Play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Before Playing Remake?
The short answer to this question is no, you should not jump into Final Fantasy VII Rebirth before playing Remake, especially if you want to get the whole story up to this point. There is a small story recap that players can view before jumping into the game, but that would be more of a basic recap rather than the whole story. It’s a great way for players who have dove into the Remake to get caught up before starting again, but new players may be missing out on plenty of pivotal plot points that help differentiate the Remake from its original iteration.
Even for the most dedicated of Final Fantasy VII fans, the Remake has added plenty of new content, and it appears that Rebirth is continuing upon that trend — so skipping over the Remake may cause a bit more confusion than initially expected for the OG fans. Each character has seen a tremendous amount of growth over their original interpretation, so we would strongly recommend playing through FF7 Remake before jumping into Rebirth, even if the fear of missing out on what is new and fancy is real. Yes, we know that people are going gaga for the Swimsuits, but you can experience that at any time.
With the final part of this trilogy likely years away, there is plenty of time to embark on the journey that both of these titles have to offer. You’ll want to make sure that you’re good and ready for the final entry by playing through both of these titles before the third title releases so you’ve got a fair bit of time to make that happen. It would just be the best thing to experience the full story instead of just reviewing a recap.
