Infinity Ward excited plenty of players when the development studio announced that it would be returning to its roots and developing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. However, many members of the community were curious as to where this new title fits in with the Modern Warfare series of the Call of Duty franchise, considering it has some of the same characters as Captain Price. Is it a prequel of the original series or something entirely different. Fortunately, we have everything you need to know about the prequel status of the latest entry in the legendary franchise covered for you.
Is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare a Prequel?
The newest title in the franchise is not a prequel to the original series of the same name that is considered to be some of the best first-person shooters of all time. This latest entry is a complete reboot of said series where it is the same universe and characters but tells an entirely new story with no recollection of the events that happened in those three other games.
Now, the story of this particular game explains what happens to Captain Price and Gaz before the formation Task Force 141. It also teases characters like Soap Mactavish and Ghost, so it is easy to see why some fans would believe it is a prequel. However, Gaz is entirely different from his version in the original series leading it hard to say that this title is a prequel.
