Breaking Down the Class

The Support Class specializes in replenishing ammunition and laying down cover fire. They have several light machine guns available, all of which can be used to drive the enemy down, allowing your squad members to press forward and take them out. If you enjoy sitting back, laying down fire for your team, and staying on the edge of the action, the Support Class is the perfect place to start, as it mixes the Assault class’ offensiveness with the more long-distance oriented defensiveness of the Scout class. It’s the perfect mix for many players, and is worth a try if you’re struggling to make headway in the more offensive based classes like the Medic and Assault.

We’ve pulled together a list of the weapons available for the Support Class. However, you should note that these are the only weapons shown in the open beta, and as we grow closer to launch more weapons may be revealed. Now that you know the weapons and gadgets at your disposal, it is time to dive into some good strategies to keep in mind when you start playing the Support Class in Battlefield 1.

Strategies

The Support Class specializes in dropping ammunition for your teammates, as well as offering covering fire for your squad as they try to push up on your objectives. This can be achieved many different ways. If you’re new to this class, we suggest finding yourself a nice piece of cover that overlooks your current objective, and then tossing down a tripwire a little way away from you. This will keep enemies from being able to simply walk up behind you and take you out by offering a little hidden protection. From here you can easily set up your light machine gun and focus in on your enemies. Try to fire in small bursts, otherwise you’re going to have to reload a lot more often, and your bullets won’t be nearly as effective against your enemies. Remember that every moment you aren’t laying down suppressing fire is another moment that your teammates are out in the open and easy targets for your enemies.

Once you have gotten used to using the light machine guns from a distance, you can begin moving forward, testing the waters in closer combat situations. Of course, you don’t want to move too fast, or get too close, as your light machine gun’s slow rate of fire won’t be nearly as effective at closer ranges against weapons like the shotguns and SMGs that Assault Class players will be carrying. We recommend using your Tripwires, even if you aren’t going to be sticking around one area, as they will allow you to keep your six covered, even if you’re moving around a lot. It’s also a great way to block off corners and take out unsuspecting enemies.

No matter which class you decide to spend time with, the Support Class is a great start to pushing yourself into the more defense based Scout Class. Of course, this isn’t the only use for the Support Class, and the classes importance to the team shouldn’t be underwritten. If you’re looking for a class that exhibits both a more aggressive role, as well as a team based role, we suggest giving Support a try and seeing how you like it.
