So you’ve lockpicked too close to the sun and finally come across the unbreakable stone slab in all of its intimidating glory. Well, here’s how to crack that bad boy open in Baldur’s Gate 3 and see what’s awaiting you inside.
Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Unlock the Stone Slab in BG3
In order to unlock the stone slab in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to get your hands on the Key of the Ancients and equip it in the helmet slot before interacting with the stone slab. To acquire this item, you’ll have a couple different options depending on where you actually come across this stone slab and how flexible your character’s morals are.
Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Acquire the Key of the Ancients in BG3
Find Nettie at Emerald Grove
Your first option for laying hands on the Key of the Ancients is to go visit Nettie in the Emerald Grove. You’ll likely already have a quest marker for this, as she’s one of the options for the Finding a Cure questline that runs through a large portion of Baldur’s Gate 3. She will eventually lead you to the secretive Enclave Library, which is where things can play out a little differently depending on how honest you are with her.
If you are honest, she will eventually ask you to swear to take Wyvern Poison if you start showing tadpole symptoms. Refusing will lead to a fight, and you’ll have to kill Nettie. But it is through her death that players can find and loot the Key of the Ancients. You’ll need it anyway at this point to escape the locked Enclave Library, as it is the only way to open either stone slab door you’ll come across.
Assuming this is where you first encounter the stone slab within the Enclave Library, walk up to it while wearing the Key of the Ancients and interact with it. You’ll now find yourself in the Underground Passage. Of course, if you’re not really feeling like murder is the best option, you can always head to the Underground Passage first.
Find Findal in the Underground Passage
For this method, it’s best to travel to the entrance of the Emerald Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3. From there head directly west. Eventually you will come upon a stone door hidden behind a wall of grass and vines. You or a member of your party will have to pass an automatic perception check in order to reveal the door, however.
Once that’s done, head inside and you’ll finally be in the Underground Passage. Be warned that this can be a pretty dangerous place if you’re not careful. There’s some pretty neat loot in here too, but first you’ll want to disable the Guardian Statues. Whatever you do next, eventually you will encounter some goblins in here, standing over the unconscious and wounded Findal.
When the goblins are taken care of, your first instinct will likely be finding a way to heal Findal. Or maybe not (hey, I’m not here to judge). Either way, hold off and pickpocket his body and you’ll find that he, too, carries a Key of the Ancients. Take it from him and then do with Findal what you will (again, not judging).
At this point, you’ll come across the stone slab that leads to the Enclave Library, and you didn’t even have to kill any innocents to do it. So pop on that Key of the Ancients and head inside.
With that, it’s done. You’ve defeated that mean, old stone slab in Baldur’s Gate 3 and found a nice alternate entrance to the Emerald Grove in the process. And, hey, now that you’re here, you might want to try and find the Druid Halsin next.
